Icon Q & A

What is Icon?

The Icon Aesthetic System is a non-invasive laser-based system Dr. Olarte uses for the treatment of various cosmetic concerns. The system was developed by Cynosure.

How does Icon work?

The Icon system uses Optimised Light™ photorejuvenation technology to deliver gentle pulses of intense, optimized light. This light reduces the appearance of sun spots, age spots, spider veins, rosacea, and capillaries. Icon also uses fractional laser technology to deliver pulsed energy to the skin. This stimulates the production of new collagen to restore skin smoothness and consistency, which is beneficial for the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and stretch marks.

What are the benefits of treatment with Icon?

Treatment with Icon can improve the appearance of the skin, as well as its texture. This treatment is non-invasive, which means that no incisions are necessary. In addition, Icon procedures don’t require a lengthy period of downtime, so patients are able to return to their normal activities quickly after the procedure. The risks associated with Icon treatment are minimal.

What types of treatment are available with Icon?

Dr. Olarte uses the Icon Aesthetic System to provide a variety of different services, including:

  • Wrinkle reduction
  • Treatment of acne and surgical scars
  • Treatment of stretch marks
  • Reduction of age spots and sun damage
  • Skin renewal
  • Rosacea
  • Spider veins and broken capillaries

Is treatment with the Icon system painful?

Treatment with the Icon laser may cause some mild discomfort. A topical anesthetic cream is used to minimize any discomfort. Patients sometimes report feeling heat and/or the sensation of a skin prick during treatment. However, the pain associated with treatment is minimal.

What are the risks of treatment?

Icon treatment is non-invasive, so the risks associated with the procedure are minimal. However, patients face a small risk of infection, scarring, and damage to internal structures. In some cases, patients may also notice a loss of hair in the treatment area.

Who is a good candidate for treatment with the Icon system?

The Icon treatment system is safe for most patients. However, not every patient will be able to benefit from treatment with this system. Dr. Olarte can review your medical history and treatment goals to determine if you’re a good candidate for Icon.
